Welcome to the sixth episode in the Out Of Breath series! In this feature, I'll share my Strava run details (at the bottom of this post) as well as a few pictures of the places I'm running through/by/in/past/etc. This run occurred 16th June, 2017.
First run in Mexico! After picking up Clo late in the evening at the airport, we spent one night in Tijuana and then headed south a couple of hours to the outskirts of Ensenada. We found a cheap hostal to relax in and sort things out for a few days and it's from there I started my run.
It was early (for me this now means 7am) in the morning, and along the Pacific coast at this time of the year it means the misty fog/clouds stay around until nearly noon. The sun burns it off eventually, but at the beginning of the day it's rather quiet and almost a bit gloomy. You can barely make it out in the above picture, but a cruise ship is coming into the harbor as I ran down this street. Ensenada is the only deep water harbor on the Mexican northern pacific coast.
While the weather may be dreary, there is no lack of color in the buildings or local art. This was a particularly bright piece of art I ran by at the beginning of my run. It was also occupied with close to fifteen people hanging out and chatting when I ran by on the way back. It's been a long time since I ran on the sand, so I was taking it easy and enjoying the surroundings.
Speaking of attractive surroundings, check out that ocean. I know it's not the stereotypical big blue waves, but I find it very relaxing and peaceful early in the morning. I wasn't the only one, as there were at least two-three hundred other people out exercising along the beach. Mostly walkers, but a decent amount of runners too. It was a nice break from the rest of the city, which during the day time is usually rather busy.
Near the end of my loop route, where I decided to turn around. Even though there were a decent amount of other people out, they were mostly individuals and not groups. Everyone also seemed super friendly, most of them waving at me and a few saying hello. A great first run in Mexico!
